Clean Energy Trailblazer Award sponsored by DWS
Jennifer is the Director of Corporate Engagement at We Mean Business, a global coalition of nonprofit organizations working with the world’s most influential businesses to take action on climate change. In her role, Jennifer orchestrates, empowers, and measures the coalition's corporate engagement work to accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon economy. Prior to We Mean Business, Jennifer held positions at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Conservation International and World Wildlife Fund. Jennifer holds a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences and Policy from The Johns Hopkins University.
Marc is the Director of Private Equity at DWS. He has over 15 years of experience in PE and investment banking. He is currently focused on working with corporate clients to achieve sustainability goals through investment strategies using traditional financing vehicles and structures. Marc is an investment committee member of the China Renewable Energy Fund and the China Clean Energy and Efficiency Fund. He is also an investment professional and investment committee member of the DB Masdar Clean Tech Fund, a generalist clean tech private equity fund situated within the Sustainable Investments division of Alternatives. Prior to joining DWS, Marc was an investment team member at Sustainable Development Investments, a unit of Citi Alternative Investments specializing in PE investments in the clean technology and renewable energy sectors globally. He has held various investment banking and corporate finance roles in the media, communications, business services, and consumer retail sectors. Marc holds an MBA with honors from Columbia Business School and a BA in mathematics and economics from Vanderbilt University.
Deepak is the Associate Director at World Resources Institute on their India Energy Programme. He leads on their Clean Energy Initiatives for different consumer categories, their Clean Energy Transitions work and their Water-Energy nexus. Prior to this, he worked with the energy consulting practices at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte. Deepak is a certified Energy Risk Professional, an electrical engineering graduate and has a Master’s degree in electric power systems.
Michael is Chairman and CEO of Liebreich Associates, through which he provides advisory services and speaks on clean energy and transportation, smart infrastructure, technology, climate finance and sustainable development. He is also the Founder and Senior Contributor to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. He is a member of the UK Department for International Trade’s Capital Investment Advisory Board and a Visiting Professor at Imperial College's Energy Futures Lab. Michael recently joined Sustainable Development Capital LLP as a Senior Adviser. He also serves on numerous advisory boards, including WWF Switzerland, Women in Sustainability, and the OECD Centre on Green Finance.
James is the editor-in-chief of BusinessGreen having launched the site in October 2007. He is responsible for BusinessGreen's leading news, opinion and analysis, and contributes to the brand's expanding events programme. James is one of the UK's leading commentators on the low carbon economy. He writes occasionally for the Guardian newspaper and has also reported for BBC Radio on a number of green technology stories.
Most Impactful Pioneer Award
Bruce is the Director of Communications and Business at Eurelectric, a member-led association based in Brussels representing the European electric utility sector. Previously, he was Deputy CEO of SolarPower Europe, Coordinator of the RE-Source Platform – the European alliance for corporate sourcing of renewable energy – and the Co-Chairman of the Global Solar Council, the representative body for the entire global solar PV sector at an international level, representing over 2000 solar. Before this, he was Chief Operating Officer at WindEurope for 10 years, founding Secretary General of the Global Wind Energy Council, and Managing Director of FLiDAR, an offshore wind company.
Jennifer is the Global Director, Energy Program at World Resources Institute. Jennifer leads a team of energy specialists around the world demonstrating approaches to deploying energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy access solutions. Her work has focused on innovative energy procurement paths for corporate and city use of clean energy.
Yusuke is Director of the Business Task Force at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies where he leads on their work supporting corporates and policy actions. He is also the Director of the Secretariat of Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership, an independent business coalition bringing together companies from sectors across Japan, to drive corporate ambition for a clean energy transition. Previously, he was a senior analyst at an investment advisory firm and worked at Sanwa Bank (current MUFG Bank). He received the Kaya Award from the Japan Society of Energy and Resources and the Best Awards from the Ministry of Environment in Japan in 2007 and 2010.
Mark is Founder & Chair of the Carbon Tracker Initiative, where he commissioned and was editor of Unburnable Carbon – Are the World’s Financial Markets Carrying a Carbon Bubble? which sets out the ‘unburnable carbon’ capital markets thesis. More recently, Mark co-founded ‘Planet Tracker’; their goals are to align capital markets with natural ecological limits to growth. He co-founded some of the first responsible investment funds, firstly at Jupiter Asset Management in 1989 with the Ecology Funds, NPI with Global Care, the AMP Capital Sustainable Future Funds, and Henderson Global Investor’s Industries of the Future Funds.
Best Community Changemaker Award
Craig is Chief Executive of The Wildlife Trusts, which has the ambition of putting a third of the UK’s land and sea into nature recovery by 2030. Craig was previously CEO of Friends of the Earth where he refocused the organization on its role of empowering communities to take action to tackle the climate and ecological crisis. He led the organization to numerous campaign victories including on bees, fracking and against the expansion of Heathrow Airport. Earlier in his career, Craig was Deputy Director at The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and Director of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group on Climate.
Sarah is the VERGE Energy Conference chair and senior analyst for GreenBiz Group. Driven by the urgency of the climate challenge, she follows trends and innovations that are accelerating the clean energy transition. Sarah has over ten years of experience in climate, clean energy and politics. She holds bachelor's degrees in politics and environmental studies from Whitman College, and was an Annenberg Dean’s Scholar at the University of Southern California, where she earned a Master's in communications.
Steven is Director for Corporate Clean Energy Leadership at Ceres. He coordinates their work to spur US corporate leadership on greenhouse gas emission reductions and clean energy uptake. Prior to this, Steven spearheaded clean energy projects and land conservation ventures in Namibia and collaborated with industry, government and policy making leaders on advancing national transmission policies and initiatives for renewable energy in the United States. He previously served as the Assistant Secretary for Energy in Massachusetts, directed implementation of The Massachusetts Global Warming Solutions Act, and chaired the Energy Facilities Siting Board. He was also the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resource’s Director of wind energy development.
Best Green Catalyst Award
Mark is Director of Supply Chain and International Collaboration at the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA). He leads on initiatives to support supply chain engagement and international collaboration between NGOs acting within this space. Prior to this, Mark worked at Rocky Mountain Institute’s Business Renewables Center (BRC). Mark also supports Rocky Mountain Institute’s BRC China programme, which aims to accelerate renewable energy transactions for companies and their supply chain partners in China. He worked for Ernst & Young’s transaction-focused renewable energy group for nine years, working on projects across the technology spectrum in Europe, Canada and North America.
Masaya is Senior Manager, Business Alliance at the Renewable Energy Institute. He leads research activities on renewable energy business and launched the Renewable Energy Users Network, a network of corporate energy users that aim to accelerate renewable procurement in Japan. Previously, he was Executive Producer at ITmedia Inc., where he launched Smart Japan, an online media platform focusing on renewable energy deployment and electric power market reformation. He was formerly CEO of the electronics industry publication, EE Times Japan, and Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Computer, a magazine focusing on enterprise IT solutions.
Jon is the Australian Coordinator for RE100. As a broadcaster, he wrote and hosted 115 episodes of the Sky News 'Smart Money’ business sustainability programme. As an author, his business guidebooks on sustainability and energy have sold over 140,000 copies. As a philanthropist, Jon was the main founder of the DoSomething, Rock Aid Armenia and Planet Ark charities. He also started Australia’s National Recycling Week and National Op Shop Week. Together with Olivia Newton-John, Jon also co-founded Australia's National Tree Day and the international 'One Tree Per Child' initiative. He was the 2010 Australian of the Year in NSW.
Doreen is the acting president and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). She has held public and private sector leadership roles advancing clean energy projects and engineering companies for over 20 years. Whilst at NYSERDA, Doreen oversaw New York State’s nation-leading advancement of renewable resources under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and Clean Energy Standard. Prior to joining NYSERDA, she was Project Director for Global Water Technologies, Inc., where she led a multi-year initiative to develop and commercialize energy savings and water treatment technologies.
Best Policy Influencer Award
Karl is Climate Policy Manager at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). He leads on climate change policy and engagement, including the organization’s climate strategy towards the UN climate change process. Karl coordinates the development of WBCSD’s climate policy messages and is the lead focal point for WBCSD to We Mean Business. Karl is a lawyer with over 10 years’ experience in sustainable development, particularly in climate change, energy and environment issues. Prior to joining WBCSD, Karl worked for Eurelectric, the Government of Malta’s Permanent Representation to the European Union, and the Cabinet of the Maltese Minister for Climate Change.
Eliot is Director of Policy at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and the Director of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group, which brings together businesses to work towards a step change in policy and action on climate change. He is also Director of the EU Green Growth Platform, which creates a common space for governments, businesses and parliamentarians to collaborate in support of a greener EU economy. He has nearly 20 years’ experience in working to unlock systemic change, including providing policy analysis around climate action for Save the Children and Christian Aid.
Anne is the Vice President of government relations and leads Ceres Policy Network, Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP). She is a registered lobbyist and is actively engaged on Capitol Hill. Anne is an environmental lawyer with twenty-five years of experience in the private and public sectors. She directed the Massachusetts-based Environmental Crimes Strike Force team of legal and engineering professionals charged with bringing high-profile civil and criminal actions against environmental violators through the Massachusetts Attorney General. In addition to her law degree, Anne holds a Master's in public administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
Most Collaborative Leader Award
Shihfang is a Research Fellow at Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER) in Taiwan. Her research spans the fields of energy and environmental policies, performance evaluation, finance, and corporate social responsibilities. Founded in 1981, CIER is an international policy think-tank for economic and industry-related research. CIER has been the regional technical partner of The Climate Group for RE100 in Taiwan since 2019.
Emily is Global Director of Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy Transition at ERM, an international environmental consultancy firm. She has 25 years of experience working with businesses, government and non-profit organizations to support the transition to a low-carbon economy. Emily has worked across multi-stakeholder groups and within specific industry sectors to collaborate on solutions to tackle climate change. Prior to joining ERM, Emily was the Head of Climate Change at the World Economic Forum and prior to that she was The Climate Group’s founding campaign director for RE100.
Mark is the CEO of Climate Advisers UK and the Managing Director of Orbitas. Mark has worked on environment, climate and energy issues for over two decades in government, NGOs and the private sector. Until June 2018 he was Chief Executive of Mongoose Energy Ltd, then the UK’s largest developer and manager of community energy projects, before which he had spent twelve years at The Climate Group, including six as its Chief Executive. He is a board member of Community Energy England, Brighton and Hove Energy Services Coop and Verra, and Chair of the Reneum Advisory Council, RE100 Advisory Committee and the BP Carbon Advisory Panel.
Mark is Head of Commercial Office, USA & Canada at Enel Green Power. He is an energy industry veteran with extensive experience in the development, operations and management of large-scale renewable energy plants. At Enel Green Power, he is responsible for the commercial off-take contracts with corporate, utility, banking and insurance customers. He has been also been involved in various strategic initiatives within Enel, including managing the launch of a renewable energy program focused on serving corporate and industrial customer needs. Prior to Enel, Mark worked for First Wind Energy in both Asset Management and Origination.
