Fossil fuels accounted for 78% of installed capacity in Indonesia in 2021. Our mission is to accelerate change towards zero carbon grids at scale, and so RE100 is expanding its policy advocacy activities into new priority geographies – including Indonesia.
In 2022, RE100 team members spent a few weeks in Indonesia to understand how and where RE100’s unique value proposition could best be used to accelerate the country’s energy transition.
With 121 members reporting operations in Indonesia, we are searching for our first Indonesian headquartered member.

Recent work in Indonesia
Published in December 2023, this report looks at common policy barriers that are hampering the rollout of renewables in some of the world’s biggest economies, including Indonesia. The barriers identified in this report fall under three common themes, the availability of renewable electricity, the accessibility of this electricity for corporate use, and the affordability of renewable electricity. The report provides recommendations that would break down these barriers, enabling countries to seize the economic opportunities of the energy transition.
This World Economic Forum report from November 2022, in collaboration with RE100, Accenture and Kamar Dagang dan Industri Indonesia (KADIN), details six ways the regulatory and policy environment in Indonesia must be unlocked to accelerate the uptake of renewable electricity in the country.
This report from September 2022 by RE100 looks into the relationship between high electricity consuming countries in the G20, and the pace of progress in renewable electricity deployment, corporate procurement and investment opportunities – including how Indonesia plans to secure 51% of its electricity requirements from renewables by 2030.
